The Logbook

Like many research archives and archives, the IMRRC collects selectively, not comprehensively. We don’t have the staff and space required to collect, process and store EVERYTHING racing-related: the endless t-shirts and caps alone would overwhelm us! So, we focus on collecting items of greatest research value: books, periodicals, programs, archives of racing organizations and teams, personal papers, photographs. But, we still want to build representative collections of other types of racing materials. Diecast and plastic models fall into the “representative” category and while we don’t collect them comprehensively, they feature prominently at the Center. In fact, current diecast displays include a historical overview of Formula 1 cars, a selection of Richard Petty cars, and a case of McLaren F1 cars promoting our upcoming gala in honor of Zak Brown, who is receiving the 2024 Cameron R. Argetsinger Award

Dr. Mark Howell's presentation for this year's Symposium Living Loud and Living Fast will explore the connections between musicians and motorsports. The presentation highlights how several well-known professional musicians from diverse genres took their interest in high-performance vehicles to regional, national, and sometimes international levels of motor racing competition.

Racing helmets have an undeniable appeal for most race fans.  Like a cars livery, their designs can be colorful or muted, complicated or simple.  Who can forget Jackie Stewart’s helmet with its tartan “halo,” Senna’s unmistakable yellow, green, and blue helmet, or Emerson Fittipaldi’s swooping red on blue/black design.  Above all, helmets can be expressions of a driver’s personality.

Today we're going to learn about the exciting 50 years of Formula One racing at the Canadian Grand Prix, and we have three speakers with years of stories to tell. In order of appearance, we're honored to be hearing from: George Webster, Lionel Birnbom, and Tim Meddaugh.

The IMRRC in partnership with the ACO USA is proud to help share Rob Dyson's Le Mans story with you! Rob is a long standing supporter of the IMRRC and get his start in racing at Watkins Glen International in the '70s.

The Camoradi USA Racing’s 1960 Corvette was built for international competition under the auspices of Chevrolet General Manager Ed Cole and Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Duntov and went on to race successfully in Havana, Daytona, Sebring, Nürburgring, Sweden, and Le Mans.

As we prepare for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 this memorial day weekend, let's step back in time and learn about how it all got started.

The event which drew a large gathering of around 200 people was a thoroughly informative and entertaining two hour program that began with a video presentation on the history of the Oswego Speedway and the Supermodified type of race car. 

The panel discussion on racing at the Oswego Speedway. There were over 300 people in the auditorium. I’m told it was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, crowds for an event held there by the IMRRC.
