Watkins Glen, N.Y. (August 19, 2026)-The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) is inviting families from Watkins Glen and the surrounding communities to race into the 2026-2027 school year at our first-ever Back-to-School Open House on Friday, August 28, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at The Center, 610 South Decatur Street in Watkins Glen.
Sponsored by Dave and Connie Davies, Walmart, and Wegmans, this free community event offers families a fun and interactive way to experience motorsports history while celebrating the start of a new school year. From race cars and crafts to games and giveaways, there will be something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
“The International Motor Racing Research Center preserves and shares the history of motorsports. Join us August 28 from 1–3 PM for a FREE Back-to-School Event for K–12 students,” said IMRRC Assistant Archivist Rachel McLaughlin. “Bring the family and get ready for a fun, racing-themed start to the school year!”
Throughout the event, visitors can get behind the wheel of Martin Truex Jr.’s Toyota Camry NASCAR, explore archival materials from the IMRRC’s collections, design wooden race cars and buttons, build LEGO race cars, and put their driving skills to test in a friendly game of Mario Kart. Children can also receive free school supplies, hats, gloves, and snacks while supplies last.
