IMRRC’s “History with Bill” Takes Motorsports Stories Beyond Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen, N.Y. (October 26, 2026) — What began as a series of short videos shared on the International Motor Racing Research Center’s social media has grown into something much bigger. This summer, the IMRRC’s popular History with Bill series entered a new chapter as Center Historian Bill Green, joined by members of the IMRRC team, began traveling beyond Watkins Glen to explore the people, cars, tracks and collections that have shaped Watkins Glen’s motorsports history.
The project is evolving into an ongoing oral history and documentary series, bringing Bill’s decades of knowledge, personal memories, and firsthand perspective directly to the places where motorsports history is preserved.
The first stop was the Revs Institute in Naples, Florida, where Bill was joined by IMRRC Marketing & Membership Coordinator Hannah Doll and Assistant Archivist Rachel McLaughlin.
During the visit, Bill selected five significant automobiles from the Revs Institute collection to explore in depth.
With the assistance of the Revs Institute Archives and Marketing teams, Bill examined the stories behind each automobile, sharing the history of the drivers who raced them, the events in which they competed and the impact they had on the sport.
But the stories went far beyond the cars themselves.
Drawing on decades of experience and countless personal connections within the motorsports community, Bill shared memories of the people, places and moments connected to each automobile. His stories offer a perspective that cannot be found in a photograph or archive alone, connecting the objects preserved in museum collections with the people and experiences that made them significant.
“Every car has a story, but sometimes you need someone who was there to tell you what happened around it,” said Green. “That’s what makes this project so special. We’re not just looking at historic cars, we are bringing them back to life.”
The Revs Institute was only the beginning. The documentary project will continue taking Bill and the IMRRC team to automotive museums, historic tracks and racing events across the country. The next planned stop is the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Through each visit, the IMRRC hopes to document stories that might otherwise be lost, while introducing new audiences to the people and objects behind some of motorsports’ most important moments.
The History with Bill documentary project is made possible through the generous support of Bill Branson, Dave and Connie Davies, Bill Green, and the Glen Region of the SCCA.
To follow Bill’s travels and see behind-the-scenes moments from each stop, follow the IMRRC on social media. New stories and videos will be shared throughout the project.
And, as Bill would say, “Happy Motorin’!”
